Touchstone maps will see minor adjustments to readability and lighting while Upgraded maps will get a full overhaul with Source 2's physically-based rendering.
A number of gameplay improvements will also be coming, including modifications to the sub-tick, which could reduce the reliance on tick rates to perform precise actions.
Gameplay
Counter-Strike Global Offensive Counter-Strike Global Offensive, the most recent installment in the wildly popular Counter-Strike franchise, features the same gameplay which has defined the genre. It was developed using Valve's Source 2 engine, and boasts high-resolution textures, real-time lighting and the physics. It has been updated with new weapons and gameplay elements.
The game includes 34 weapons among which 19 are exclusive to this latest version. Many of these are replacements for old weapons while the rest have been designed with unique roles and features.
Some of the game's most significant changes are focused on the guns themselves. For instance, the SCAR-L is now replaced with an upgraded gun that offers more power and range as well as the AK-128 has been upgraded with a new barrel to ensure greater accuracy. Other guns, including the M4A1 sniper rifle as well as the M4A1 are also modified.
Some of the maps have been updated to work with CS:GO 2. Overpass has been redesigned to make use of the brand new Source 2 engine, while other maps such as Dust II have been carefully updated. In addition to the brand new maps, the game will feature a host of other new features. For instance, the game's UI has been upgraded, and a new Item Workshop will allow players to design their own items.
Another significant change is the game's Faction system. Counter-Strike 2 offers a wide range of T and CT models, while the previous version had two factions. In addition, the game's server architecture has been changed to use sub-tick updates meaning that the servers can evaluate the world at extremely short intervals, like the moment that the player moves or fires a shot or throws an grenade.
Since its release in 2012, CS:GO has become one of the most played games on Steam, with an estimated 11 million players playing each month. There is also a thriving esports community, with teams competing in various tournaments and leagues. The Valve-sponsored Major Championships are the most famous, with top teams compete to win large prize pools.
Weapons
Counter-Strike Global Offensive (CS:GO) is a game focused on combat with weapons and with 35 weapons to choose from players have a range of options when choosing their primary weapon. The equipment players use, such as armor, defuse kits for CTs and grenades for terrorists are also a crucial part in the overall strategy of the match.
Each weapon has strengths and weaknesses. For instance the AWP is a superb sniper rifle that can kill armoured opponents above the legs with ease, but it also has an extremely slow rate of fire and is quite costly. The SCAR-20 is a different weapon, with excellent accuracy in the scope, but it takes a long time to reload and can dramatically reduce a player's movement speed.
New weapons in CS:GO also come with some changes to the way they appear. For example the HE weapon now explodes in a more realistic manner and molotov cocktails' smoke or incendiary weapons looks more realistic. This makes it easier to track players.
Weapons in CS:GO are available for purchase at the designated spawn locations of each team. Players can buy any weapon in the game including knives and pistols. Players can even use the money to upgrade their weapons. The game now offers a new menu for players to shop more conveniently.
Valve has released a couple of updates just a few months after the launch of the game to enhance the game's the game's gameplay. The chat system in the game has been updated with new features that block the use of offensive words and spam. Additionally, the UI for purchasing items has been revamped and now uses a grid layout.
The game has also been improved by introducing a new anti-cheat system that allows spectators to watch and bans. The team that loses a round will be penalized, however a player who commits a crime will be banned. Valve has also introduced a few gameplay adjustments to the game to make it more enjoyable.
Maps
The Counter-Strike franchise is famous for its maps and the ability required to master them. Each map is the culmination of many years and even decades of dedication. The most important thing to know about the game is the various maps in its reserve and active pools since this strengthens your understanding of the game's mechanics as well as giving you additional tools to have fun playing it.
Mirage was released by Valve in 2013 and is a well-loved CSGO Map that is part of the Active Pool. The map is well-known for its high skill ceilings and balanced play between both sides in combat. The map is also a part of most esports events and major championships in CSGO.
Nuke is the longest-running defusal map in CSGO and is a standard of both professional and casual playing. The map has been the subject of several revisions over the years, but it is still one of the most strategically complex maps in the game. The map's unique layout demands to be considered from every angle and has more ways to beat your opponent than any other map.
Overpass is a more recent CSGO map that was launched in the Winter Offensive update in 2013. The popularity of the map has increased since its introduction and it has made a number of appearances at major championships as well as Esports events. It's a compact map that is packed with options, ranging from the wide outside on the A site to the close corners in B site.
Vertigo is now part of the CSGO Active pool for 2019 and has impressed all who have played it. It has replaced one of the most popular maps in CSGO, but it is well-received by the players. The map is a bit CT-oriented however this doesn't stop it from being a good pick in most queues. Another exciting aspect of this map is the canals that run through it. They are a nice touch to the map and make it stand out from many other CSGO maps that are heavy on long exteriors.
Updates

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is still in good shape ten years after release however, the 2012 first-person shooter multiplayer was in need of a major update. Valve confirmed today that the Source 2 beta test for CS:GO has started. Fans have waited for a long time for this limited test. The studio promised the game's "largest technical leap forward for the game" and a revamp of all aspects of the experience.
The most notable change to the game is the switch to Source 2, a graphics engine that gives a more life-like visual experience. clash.gg includes improved lighting and particle systems as well as a better concentration on making bullets more readable from farther away. The move to the new engine will mean a revamp of several maps, including reworked versions of Italy and Overpass.
The most important thing is that Valve's upgrade is meant to improve the way that the server's architecture and tick rate handle the actions of players. The switch to a 128-tick servers architecture will improve the responsiveness and graphical quality of the game. Valve promises that the change will be a "remarkable improvement" and should make CS:GO feel more responsive than before.
Aside from the graphical changes, players can also expect several other gameplay improvements. Smoke grenades, for instance are now volumetric 3D objects in the game world which can be pushed to temporarily alter the viewlines. Valve also claims that the update to the game's server architecture will allow sub-tick updates, which should be capable of calculating precise actions between ticks, and provide more fluid gameplay.
Anyone who is interested can test the new version of the game by logging into the test that is limited and will be available to a select group of players depending on a variety of factors, including recent playtime and Steam account standing. Valve notes that any cosmetics you've accumulated in the current CS:GO will be transferred to the updated version of the game when it launches later this summer. Esports Insider has reached out to BLAST, the largest CS:GO tournament organizer, to determine whether they plan to offer an older version of the game to its leagues until the latest update is released.
